Ginny, a fluffy orange cat with a bow, and Squash, a one-eyed white cat with colored patches, have a secret. Every day they sneak down to their secret lair where they pursue their quest of eating tasty snacks! But when the snack supply runs out, they’ll have to up their adventure level and go on a quest—a quest for snacks!
On their quest for the ingredients for their snack potion, they’ll travel to amazing places, meet new friends and unique creatures, and become even better friends as they learn to work together. But when their new friends need the ingredients they’ve gathered, will they help them out or keep them for their Potion of Unlimited Snacks? And will they ever find their way home again?
This slim volume is packed with extreme cuteness, from the sparkly threads of magic to the fluffy cats, to their new magical friends in different places. Of course, there are also lots of cute snacks scattered throughout the book as well! Bright colors and kawaii-style characters abound as they journey from one magical place to another, including jungles, sparkling oceans with mer-cats, and adorable lava-dogs. The two pop through magical portals, journey in balloons, and zip across the ocean, firm in their friendship and their quest for tasty snacks.
Although it would be easy to dismiss this as a novelty along the lines of Pusheen or Hello Kitty, there’s actually quite a strong plot and plenty of humor and sweet adventures fill the pages, along with neatly drawn digital art. The different creatures and the two cats have individual characters and this is sure to be a fan favorite with young readers who love cute and magical adventures. It would make a great base for a role-playing game, writing prompt, or crafty program as well. This will be of most interest to public libraries with a lot of elementary age readers, especially if they are looking for age-appropriate manga.
