This reviewer is not longer actively working on our site, but we would not be here if not for our many dedicated contributors over the years. We thank all of them for their reviews, features, and support! Amanda is the Assistant Director at the Nevada Public Library (pronounced Nuh-VAY-Duh) in Iowa, where her position also includes the duties of teen specialist, a perfect job that lets her order middle grade and YA materials, plan fun and innovative programs, and help shape library services for an awesome community. She received her MLIS from the University of Iowa where her culminating poster presentation was entitled Comics in Libraries: Promoting Multiple Literacies in the 21st Century. Her love of comics began with the Archie Digests she and her brother would swap as kids, and expanded to an interest in super heroes thanks to Saturday morning cartoons and reruns of Batman: The Animated Series. As a comics reader, Amanda is particularly interested in strong female characters, diverse characters and creators, and pretty much anything from the Boom! Box imprint. She is also an avid reader of mysteries, middle grade, and YA titles, and can tell you more than you’d ever want to know about Nancy Drew. An eternal child at heart and a connoisseur of cute things, Amanda has quite a collection of toys and plush friends (a couple of whom are making an appearance in her photo). When her nose isn’t stuck in a book, Amanda can be found lurking in bookstores and comic shops, gaming, sharing her many nerdy interests, teaching herself to knit, and playing jazz trombone.
