Highlights from the past week, with commentary from the NFNT gang:
Adventure Time: Marceline and the Scream Queens: Mathematical Edition (BOOM! Studios, 9781608863884)
Anna: I’m really impressed at the Adventure Time comics. They work on their own but augment the show. Definitely a must-have for fans, but also a good all-ages pick for a library.
Attack on Titan Volume 13 (Kodansha, 9781612626796)
Thomas: Ever since the anime studio behind Attack On Titan said they’re waiting on the manga to give them enough story to produce a second season’s worth of anime, each volume release has become that much more exciting.
Avengers Undercover Volume 1: Descent (Marvel, 9780785189404)
Mark: Avengers Undercover continues the story of the kids from Avengers Arena and it’s still a great read. If you’re looking for a teen centric superhero book, this is a good option. The kids go undercover with a group of villains to find Arcade, the villain who abused them in the last storyline. Each teen’s loyalty is tested and some of them decide that being heroic may not be the path they want to follow anymore. I hope they stick the landing on this one. It finishes up in a few months.
Even More Bad Parenting Advice (Drawn & Quarterly, 9781770461673)
Jenny: Even More Bad Parenting Advice is another little collection by Guy Delisle. The small format of these humorous musings may be awkward for library shelves, but I still want to read them!!
Theseus and the Minotaur (TOON Books, 9781935179610)
Marissa: Theseus and the Minotaur was good; I reviewed it for School Library Journal. It’s great for younger fans of Greek Mythology.
Tomboy: a Graphic Memoir (Zest Books, 9781936976553)
Robin: I’m very curious to read Tomboy by Liz Prince — despite my particularly girly dress-up nature now, for the entirety of my childhood and teenhood I was a definite tomboy. I’ve heard good things about this title, so I’m looking forward to reading it.
