Highlights from the past week, with commentary from the NFNT gang:
The Big Feminist BUT (Alternative Comics, 9780615789385)
Tessa: I’m interested in looking at The Big Feminist But – themed anthologies can be hit or miss but I always love seeing the variety of creators and stories that come together.
Anna: I’m reviewing “Big Feminist But” now. I like it! It’s a good companion to broader women’s studies.
Thomas: I hope this anthology sees many sequels as good as this original.
Jessikah: Big Feminist But definitely piques my interest as well.
The Complete Cul de Sac (Andrews McMeel, 978-1449438821)
Andrew S: The Complete Cul de Sac is a comic that I would recommend to anyone and everyone. Â It is one of the few print strips that is truly all ages and will make even the most curmudgeonly person alive laugh at least once. While I’m sad that it has ended, I am glad that it was able to appear even if but for a short while.
Hey Mister: Come Hell or High Water Pants (Top Shelf, 9781603090308)
Caitlin: I’m excited about new Hey Mister  – it’s like being reunited with dear old dysfunctional friends!
I Kill Giants: Fifth Anniversary Edition (Image, 9781607069850)
Thomas: “I Kill Giants” is one of my go-to graphic novels for patrons who claim “I just can’t get into comics,” and most of them come back in tears asking for more like this.
Andrew S: Although I can’t figure out yet if the “I Kill Giants” 5th Anniversary paperback edition is any different from the “I Kill Giants” titan edition, this is one of my all time favorite graphic novels and one of the first that I recommend to people. Â It is fantastic storytelling, gorgeous art, and really showcases how and why graphic novels exist. Â So glad to see that it is being honored with a 5th anniversary edition and that new readers will be able to discover this fantastic story.
Persona 4 – Complete Collection (Sentai)
Allen: Huh, had I known that Sentai was going to bundle up Persona 4 Part 1 & 2, I might have held out a bit longer!
Saga of the Swamp Thing Volume 6 (DC Comics/Vertigo, 9781401246921)
Thomas: I don’t know if I’ve said it before about an earlier Swamp Thing book, but this series repeatedly touches levels of greatness that should rival if not overshadow Watchmen and V For Vendetta.
Strobe Edge Volume 10 (Viz, 9781421564487)
Thomas: It’s about time this series reached a finale! Each book sets me on edge with constant, palpable moments of secret loves revealed. This could have ended in volume 9 if Sakisaka hadn’t stalled the plot, but I’m not mad, I just want to see the fated couple united and not making self-defeating excuses anymore.
Trigun Maximum Omnibus Volume 3 (Dark Horse, 9781616550127)
Jessikah: My brother and I bonded over Trigun years ago, so the series has a special place in my heart, always.
True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys (Dark Horse, 9781595824622)
Thomas: Gerard Way has yet to steer me wrong with his Umbrella Academy series, so I hope this continues his hot streak.
