Highlights from the past week, with commentary from the NFNT gang:
Alice in Comicland (IDW, 9781613779132)
Marissa: I love anything related to Alice in Wonderland, so I am really excited about Alice in Comicland! I really like the idea of a short story collection by famous artists putting their own spin on the Alice story. This may be something I end up buying!
Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge (NIS America)
?Jenny: Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge is the standard release of season 2 (as opposed to the spiffier but pricier premium edition which came out first), so now it’s more affordable for anyone who just wants to watch the continuation of the ridiculousness. If only they’d make a season 3! I don’t know where they’d go or what they’d do with it, but I’d watch it.  🙂
Atomic Legion (Dark Horse, 9781616553128)
Garrett: That Atomic Legion hardcover hits all my buttons…love to get my paws on that one.
Buddy Buys a Dump (Fantagraphics, 9781606997451)
Caitlin: I’d like to read Buddy Buys a Dump – I usually enjoy the Hate collections.
Cleopatra in Space (Scholastic Graphix, 9780545528436)
?Andrew S: I am most excited about “Cleopatra in Space.” Â I’ve been reading and collecting the minicomics that he’s been producing and I’m thrilled that Scholastic is going to let him do an entire series and really develop and explore the world. Even better is that Cleopatra acts like a typical kid, headstrong, kick-butt, and compassionate. Â I can’t wait for volume 2.
Darklight (BOOM! Studios, 9781608862948)
Anna: I really like “Darklight.” It’s got a very “Star Trek” vibe, but the setting’s much more interesting.
Kids Are Weird and Other Observations From Parenthood (Touchstone, 9781452118703)
?Andrew S: I love Jeffrey’s quirky sense of humor and his simple, yet evocative marker drawings of the world. I read a copy of this and loved some of what he captured.
King Conan Volume 3: Hour of the Dragon (Dark Horse, 9781616553074)
?Matthew: I personally find what Truman and Giorello have been doing with the King Conan mini-series far more engaging than the regular monthly title. Unlike Brian Wood, who has made some rather dramatic changes while interpreting the original Howard text, Truman sticks close to the original text and the original feeling of Howard’s work. This new collection – the first volume of an adaptation of Howard’s only full-length Conan novel The Hour Of The Dragon – is one of the best adaptations of any work I’ve seen in a graphic novel format, let alone a great Conan story.
Garrett: I might have to check out the King Conan mini-series after Mr. Morrison’s recommendation. I’ve been plowing through all the Savage Sword trades, but I’m not familiar with anything that’s been published in the last few years. I’m a softy for mighty-thewed, hill-pantherish protagonists.
Space Battleship Yamoto (Funimation)
Allen: Wow, Space Battleship Yamato! I understand that’s a classic but never got a chance to see it. Adding that to my MUST HAVE pile!
Jessikah: I second Yamato, Allen! Â I love me some Matsumoto.
Vinland Saga Volume 3 (Kodansha, 9781612624228)
Jenny: I can’t wait to delve into Vinland Saga 3. I’m loving watching Thorfinn grow up little by little and hope he someday realizes his dad had the right idea.
Thomas: Attack On Titan, your gore and suspense are really popular and people seem to love cosplaying your cast, but let’s be real, Vinland Saga is ten times better in every respect.

Jenny: XxxHolic Rei 1. Again with my not being able to say no to CLAMP. More Watanuki and YĂ»ko and nunununu wishes and beautiful things to look at? I’m in!
