Batman: Court of Owls Book and Mask Set (DC Comics, 9781401242855)
Traci: I just know I want that mask that comes with the Batman Court of Owls book set. 🙂
Black Bird Volume 17 (Viz, 9781421558905)
Jenny: Black Bird’s almost done! It’s sad it took so long for the heroine to develop some willpower and the hero not to come off as a complete jerk, but the melodrama has grown on me and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.
A Bride’s Story Volume 5 (Yen Press, 9780316243094)
Jenny: A new volume of A Bride’s Story means more insanely detailed riches to linger over and more strong (physically and otherwise) women to look up to and cheer on.
Snow: Jenny, I just reviewed vol. 5 of A Bride’s Story for Booklist. Here’s a hint: It’s beautiful! Just like all the others. I want to dive in to Mori’s art and roll around in it.
A Devil and Her Love Song Volume 11 (Viz, 9781421551340)
Jenny: I’m behind on A Devil and Her Love Song, but find each volume surprises me with its balance of sappy hokiness and compelling personal drama. It’s often cheezy but in such an honest, heartfelt way that I can’t help but like it.
Doctor Who Series 1: Winter’s Dawn, Season’s End (IDW, 9781613778098)
Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time Volume 2 (IDW, 9781613777558)
Snow: Doctor Who comics are like illustrated fan fiction, so I can’t pass that up.
Fairy Tale Comics: Classic Tales Told by Extraordinary Cartoonists (First Second, 9781596438231)
Snow: I can’t wait for First Second’s Fairy Tale Comics. It should be as beautiful as their Nursery Rhyme Comics.
Hakuoki: Demon of the Floating Blossom – Dawn of the Shinsengumi (Sentai)
Jenny: I avoided starting Hakuoki for a long time because I’ve never been a big fan of otome game adaptations (or game adaptations in general), but my weakness for Shinsengumi stories and the attractive character designs and animation finally won me over. Plus, the series’ supernatural element actually works well with the historical context. If this prequel has the added bonus of not including the main series’ heroine, whose lamentable uselessness is best ignored, then I’ll be even happier.
Hello Kitty: Here We Go (Viz, 9781421558783)
Snow: Jacob Chabot’s art is always worth seeing and I’ve loved Hello Kitty since I was a kid, so that’s a good combo.
Ooku: the Inner Chambers Volume 8 (Viz, 9781421554822)
Jenny: I just got my greedy hands on Ooku 8 and can’t wait to dive back into Yoshinaga’s involving alternate history.
Pippi Longstocking Fixes Everything (Volume 2) (Drawn & Quarterly, 9781770461314)
Snow: I really enjoyed the first Pippi Longstocking comic collection, so I want to read the second.
Sherlock Bones Volume 1 (Kodansha, 9781612624440)
Snow: I must say, I’m very intrigued by just the title “Sherlock Bones.” I’ll have to give that one a look-see!
Slam Dunk Volume 30 (Viz, 9781421533377)
Jenny: Slam Dunk = whee!
Spera Volume 3 (Archaia Entertainment, 9781939867018)
Snow: I’d like to see where the story goes in Spera, vol. 3. I liked the first two volumes, though they do meander a bit.
Jenny: I’d read Spera 3 just for more of Kyla Vanderklugt’s art. The overall story’s enjoyable, too, but I agree that it can lose focus sometimes.
