This week’s highlights, with commentary from the NFNT gang:
Batman Detective Comics Volume 2: Scare Tactics (DC Comics, 9781401238407)
Traci: Well, I feel like a broken record at this point…but, I’m super, super excited for Batman Detective Comics HC #2 Scare Tactics. The first volume was great, so I’m excited for the continuation of the story.
Mind MGMT Volum 1 (Dark Horse, 9781595827975)
Caitlin: I was collecting this until I missed an issue that my local shop never reordered, so I’m eager to get my hands on the collection. It’s a weird, fast-moving story with a lot of fun hidden puzzles and surprises. I interviewed the author here.
Oz: the Road to Oz (Marvel, 9780785164043)
Jennifer W: I’m excited that Marvel is still continuing the Oz series and they’re still good! And the kids are still checking them out! They had me when they did Ozma, my favorite Oz book of all (dinner pail trees! I never get tired of the dinner pail trees) and now I’m waiting with bated breath to see if they’ll make it all the down to my next favorite Oz book, Tik-Tok of Oz.
Snow: I’m a person who usually hates adaptations, but I do love the work Marvel is doing on the Oz books.
Relish: My Life in the Kitchen (First Second, 9781596436237)
Jennifer W: I preordered Relish for myself, I’m a big fan of Lucy Knisley’s artwork, and it’s a really lovely memoir. And I say that as a person who does not like memoirs! I highly recommend it for adult collections and teen collections that cater to older teens/college age.
Gail: I pre-ordered Relish as well and am looking forward to it. I have been following her comic strip adventures as an author/illustrator on book tour and enjoying them immensely.
Snow: Relish is pretty great!
Unico (Digital Manga, 9781569703120)
Snow: I just got in Unico from DMP and, so far, it’s pretty adorable. A co-worker was excited to see it because she remembers watching the anime as a kid.
