This week’s highlights, with commentary from the NFNT gang:
Blake & Mortimer Volume 6: SOS Meteors (Cinebook, 9781905460977)
Blake & Mortimer Volume 7: Affair of the Necklace (Cinebook, 9781849180375)
Jennifer W: I’m looking forward to reading more Blake and Mortimer stories – I’ve really enjoyed the mystery/historical fiction aspect of these classic stories.
Calvin & Hobbes 10th Anniversary Book (Pocket Books, 9780740721359)
Calvin & Hobbes: Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat (Pocket Books, 9780836217698)
Calvin & Hobbes: Indispensable (Pocket Books, 9780836218985)
Calvin & Hobbes: Lazy Sunday Book (Pocket Books, 9780836218527)
Calvin & Hobbes: Revenge of the Baby-Sat (Pocket Books, 9780836218664)
Calvin & Hobbes: Something Under the Bed is Drooling (Pocket Books, 9780836218251)
Calvin & Hobbes: Sunday Pages 1985 – 1995 (Pocket Books, 9780740721359)
Matthew: Yay Calvin and Hobbes reprints!
Green Lantern Volume 2: Revenge of the Black Hand (DC Comics, 9781401237660)
Matthew: This is not bad but I really wish Geoff Johns had allowed the Green Lantern titles to undergo a full reboot like all the rest of the DC Universe with the new 52.  With four writers doing their own thing with the mythos now, it’s so confusing now which Green Lantern stories from the past few years have taken place now and how exactly they’ve taken place if something changed.
Justice League International Volume 2: Breakdown (DC Comics, 9781401237936)
Jennifer W: My local comic shop owner has been reminding me every time I come in that I should reread Justice League International, so I’m kind of interested to see what the new collection looks like.
Oz: Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz (Marvel Comics, 9780785155553)
Jennifer W: I love Marvel’s Oz books and to my delight, a group of girls have gotten very enthusiastic about them as well, recommending them to all their friends. They’re a big thing right now and I loved Dorothy – very true to the original story, while still adding new depth in the art and retelling.
Psyren Volume 8 (Viz, 9781421543369)
Jennifer W: I bought some Psyren for our library and it has circulated well – I even read a volume and enjoyed it. Pretty much any manga I buy circs well, but I’ll keep buying this one.
Sybil the Backpack Fairy Volume 3: Aithor (Papercutz, 9781597073691)
Jennifer W: Sybil the Backpack Fairy has been popular in a mild way, not as big as Disney Fairies, but it checks out regularly. The winged horse on the cover of this newest volume will probably get even more readers.
Winx Club Volume 5: (Viz, 9781421541631)
Jennifer W: I am really not a fan of the Winx Club graphic novels. One of them was nominated for Cybils so I read it and came to the conclusion that it is something I would only add to the library under massive pressure. Barbie-like girls (seriously, you can see their rib cages) inane, clichéd plots, this represents the worse of every pink glitter genre genre I’ve seen, Happily, I have not encountered a single girl who watches the cartoons, so hopefully it will die a natural death.
