Adventure Time Volume 1 (BOOM! Studios, 9781608862801)
Jack: Does one even need to mention that Adventure Time is awesome? No, one does not.
The Annotated Sandman Volume 2 (DC Comics, 9781401235666)
Jack: Annotated Sandman vol. 2 promises to bring more of the erudite coolness that the first volume brought. Not the definitive way to read the series as the art is printed black-and-white, but for fans it’s a goldmine of nerdy trivia and ephemera.
Avengers vs. X-Men (Marvel, 9780785163176)
Michael: Whatever you may think of the Avengers vs X-Men event, it brought a pretty definitive close to this chapter of Marvel’s history, which has been going since 2004. For that reason alone it’s worth getting.
Danger Club Volume 1 (Image, 9781607066347)
Jack: Danger Club is another great series from Image, who are on one hell of a roll lately. It’s about what happens to all of the superhero sidekicks when the big guns go missing and the world spirals out of control. Fun, fast, and occasionally shockingly violent, it’s kind of like Young Avengers if Young Avengers spent more time telling rad stories than developing characters.
Illiterature (BOOM! Studios, 9781608862825)
Caitlin: I’ve really enjoyed Carol Lay’s clever Story Minute cartoons and am looking forward to reading them all in one collection.
Kevin Keller Volume 1: Welcome to Riverdale (Archie Comics, 9781936975235)
Snow: I’m happy that Kevin Keller will be available in paperback. I know it’s gotten a lot of good press for having a positive gay character, but I would like to point out that Kevin is also a positive portrayal of a military kid. As a military brat myself, I was thrilled to see us represented in such a good light!
Negima Volume 36 (Kodansha, 9781612622392)
Michael: Negima volume 36 is basically the end of the series. While there are two volumes following it, this is the end of the big story arc that’s been running for (arguably) 16 volumes and the two following volumes are basically wrapping up every remaining plot thread in the series. So if you’re a fan, be sure not to miss it.
Ouran High School Host Club Box Set (Viz, 9781421550787)
Eva: If I didn’t already own all the volumes (and a hand towel, a shikishi, a phone charm, a note pad… You get the idea), I’d buy this thing in a hot second. There is nothing I don’t love about this shojo manga parody with heart.
Strobe Edge Volume 1 (Viz, 9781421550688)
Snow: Strobe Edge, a new series from VIZ, started off strong in volume 1. It seems like a typical shojo school romance, but has a strength all its own. I enjoyed the look at a girl learning about love and I’m eager to read future volumes.
