Hereville: How Mirka Met a Meteorite (Abrams, 9781419703980)
Snow: I am excited for more Hereville! I can’t wait to see what Mirka gets up to this time!
Abby: I cannot tell you how excited I am for Hereville. The first one was hilarious and had gorgeous artwork. Mirka is one of my favorite characters ever.
Rise of the Guardians: Hidden Truth and Other Stories (Ape Entertainment, 9781937676551)
Jennifer: I’m guessing the Rise of the Guardians is William Joyce’s stories? I purchased one picture book in the series, but it wasn’t really popular. It’s an interesting idea, familiar characters like the Tooth Fairy, Sandman, etc. as powerful fantasy creatures, but just didn’t work well with my audience. Maybe after the movie comes out there will be more interest.
Absolute Final Crisis (DC Comics, 9781401235116)
Michael: While Final Crisis read issue by issue was confusing, with all the material in one place and not separated by months of waiting it becomes a fairly cohesive well written event. Not a “must buy” but not bad.
All Star Western Volume 1: Guns and Gotham (DC Comics, 9781401237097)
Jack: I have heard such great things about All-Star Western and am really excited to read it. They do a lot with the history of Gotham City apparently… and Jonah Hex!
G.I. Joe: Complete Collection Volume 1 (IDW, 9781613773963)
Eva: People always look at me funny when I tell them this, but GI Joe was the first comic book I ever bought. IDW’s version of the story has been a lot of fun and has reminded me why I got such a kick out of the series, lo those many years ago.
Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe (Marvel, 9780785164036)
Jennifer: I’m personally a Deadpool fan but I thought this arc wasn’t really funny – too over the top and, although it sounds weird to say it about Deadpool, pointlessly violent.
Journey Into Mystery/ New Mutants: Exiled (Marvel, 9780785165408)
Michael: Any part of Kieron Gillen’s run of “Journey Into Mystery” is not to be missed and this crossover with the New Mutants (the subset of the X-Men with closest ties to Asgard) is no exception.
Secret Avengers Volume 3: Run the Mission, Don’t Get Seen, Save the World (Marvel, 9780785152552)
Jack: Secret Avengers: Run the Mission, Don’t Get Seen, Save the World by Warren Ellis is BRILLIANT. 6 done-in-one stories mixing espionage, high concept sci-fi, and pure audacity. The art’s nice, too. Anyone who missed the hardcover should pick up the trade. Seriously.
AAAA! A Foxtrot Kids Edition (Pocket Books, 9781449423056)
Michael: I haven’t read this particular collection of Foxtrot, but I’ve read every single strip elsewhere. I loved it as a kid and I love it now. It’s a really funny comic strip that any nerd, young or old will enjoy. I hope that this book, which is aimed at a younger audience will grab their interests as much as it grabbed mine.
Snow: Like Michael, I’m a Foxtrot fan, so I too am hoping the new compilation does well.
