The Carter Family: Don’t Forget This Song (Abrams, 9780810988361)
Snow: I just turned in my Unshelved Book Club review of The Carter Family and it was magnificent. Fans of folk music, Americana, roots music, and classic country should not miss it!
The Nao of Brown (Abrams/SelfMadeHero, 9781906838423)
Caitlin: I like the cover image a lot and I read an intriguing review of this on the Graphic Medicine site.
A Christmas Carol: the Night That Changed the Life of Eliza Scrooge (Dark Horse, 978-1595829917)
Caitlin: Is it just a gender-switched Christmas Carol? What else has been changed? Are we going to start seeing more of these?
Superman Batman: Sorcerer Kings (DC, 9781401234461)
Michael: This is a really fun read, especially if you like post-apocalyptic scenarios and magic.
Queen Sonja Volume 4: Son of Set (Dynamite Entertainment, 9781606903391)
Matthew: Queen Sonja: Son Of Set is avoidable. The series started out with a good idea and grand execution and I’d recommend the earlier volumes. But with Son of Set, the series became less about Sonja and more about writer Luke Lieberman showcasing his version of Thulsa Doom. His version? Long story – I wrote all about it if you must know the details.
What is worse, it was also at this time that the Queen Sonja book became an exercise in how much fan-service you can sneak into an OT-rated book. I can say, on the bright side, that the fan-service has been equal opportunity with just as much gratuitous male nudity as there is female nudity. Still, the lengths they’ve gone through to justify it in story became ridiculous. (We need a distraction before we attack the slaver camp – have the hot blonde warrior run past it naked!)
A Wrinkle in Time (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 9780374386153)
Caitlin: Hope Larson’s adaptation has already been discussed favorably here – I’m jealous of anyone who’s read it already.
Sailor Twain: Or: The Mermaid in the Hudson (First Second, 9781596436367)
Snow: Now that Sailor Twain is out, so conveniently close to payday, that’s what I’m excited about picking up.
Caitlin: I’ve been curious about this for a while. It looks dark and lovely, and I enjoy pretty much anything having to do with mermaids.
Girl Friends: the Complete Collection 1 (Seven Seas Entertainment, 978-1935934899)
Caitlin: I’m a sucker for slow building forbidden romance, but it has to be done exactly right – I don’t really know anything about this one yet but I want to read it.
Snow: I am also intrigued by Girl Friends, as I’ve heard good things about Milk Morinaga’s work, but haven’t read any of it before.
