I just got my hands on an advance copy of Saga, vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan. Is it too over-the-top to say that Vaughn is a god among graphic novelists? Everything is does is just brilliant and this is no exception.

I finally read Drama and I officially have an author crush on Raina Telgemeier.  She is a little too good at authentically re-creating my middle school experience.

Sheli

Just hosted Raina! She was awesome and gracious and the best. I also have Matt Phelan coming by in the next month, so I’m kinda super-stoked.

Yay graphic novelists visits!

And YES Saga is amazing and Fiona Staples should win all the prizes. That sexytime issue had some of the best character design – ever.

My Tezuka kick continues with Apollo, a story about a man forced to experience the death of a loved one over and over. A good and emotional title, although I don’t like the bits involving the main character killing animals!

What made me happy this week is that I got to meet Scott Chantler yesterday at Word in the Street in Lethbridge. I actually did not get to hear him present as I was presenting at the same time but he was really fine to talk to (and I so enjoy his work).

I have finally got a happy! I am thrilled to be on the round 1 judging panel for graphic novels for Cybils! Nominations will begin October 1 and anyone can nominate awesome graphic novels published for kids and teens in the last year. Choose us lots of great books to read!

My happy for this week is that I was able to go to Barnes and Noble yesterday for work and they happened to have a buy 2 get one free sale on select graphic novels and manga. I got vol 1-9 of Skip Beat and Naruto and picked up Batman Arkham City. I also picked up some Big Nate and Garfield.

Snow: And B&N online is still having its buy 2 for 3 sale on DC comics. It goes through November 15. I’m saving up to finish out my Fables and Ex Machina collections!

I’m really excited because the Ohio Library Council’s Intellectual Freedom Committee partnered with me on my Banned Books Week video.  If y’all want to check it out, click here.

My comic-related happy (if I’m not too late) is Honest Trailers’ Avengers trailer.  I love this movie, but this trailer is hilarious.  Just why is SHIELD so obsessed with bluetooth?  Watch out though… you will lose a small chunk of your life to their trailers if you watch one.  It’s like 30-Second Bunnies that way.
