haruhichan2The wild antics of the SOS Brigade continue in the second volume of the Haruhi Suzumiya spin-off, The Melancholy of Suzumiya. Much like the previous volume, the manga collects short, four panel comics that were originally run in the magazine Shonen Ace. The second volume sees our friends of the SOS Brigade coming back to school after the winter break and having all sorts of wacky experiences including using Mikuru to determine new club outfits, bringing a balloon animal to life, camping, enjoying the summer holiday at the beach and partaking in a moonlight noodle feast complete with bunny girls.

Although the last volume was light on questionable content despite it’s Older Teen rating, this volume earns it by featuring the girls of the SOS Brigade parading around in swimsuits and bunny girl costumes. Still, the absence of sexuality, nudity, and language makes the comic suitable for most teens. The manga’s tone is as manic as it was in the last book and if readers had a difficult time with volume one, they may struggle with this book as well. However, because of the series’ sense of humor, one may be too busy giggling and enjoying themselves to care.
