I apparently have many happys this week.
One is: Bad Machinery is out in print! YAY!
Plus, it contains a hilarious slang glossary for anyone not as steeped in British slang (i.e. television) as I am.
Two is that this course is going on: Gender Through Comics Books.
And ANYONE can take it. College students, lifelong learners (like me!) And there is a whole slate of awesome professional and industry folks taking part and being interviewed within the structure of the course, which should be darned amazing.
Gail: Happy for this course as well. Signed up for it along with some of my former students.
Eva: I enrolled in this course, too! I love the idea of a MOOC and hope there are more courses like this one that are open to any adult who has an interest in the topic. Hooray for the internet and the people who get how it can/should work!
And also, of course, that Raina Telegmeier’s new book has been announced and it will be Sisters! As a sister myself, I’m very much looking forward to her take on the relationship, both the ups and the downs.
My happy is that one of my favorite fanfiction authors is becoming a published author this May — with a title from First Second! Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong is written by Prudence Shen and illustrated by Faith Erin Hicks and is a lot of fun. And props to Shen for getting a book not only published with such a great company, but illustrated by such a fine artist!
One of my former students in my comic book course…what makes me happy this week!
