Also, I just found out that I apparently convinced my local high school to include the excellent Zahra’s Paradise by Amir and Khalil on their summer reading list! Yay!
I’m happy about these ridiculous webcomic cookies that a blogger baked and decorated for TCAF. It’s hard to pick a favorite but I guess I’d go with either T Rex of McPedro.
My happy this week is that my library took my advice and added copies of Animal Man Book 1 and Batman: The Court of Owls to our Lucky Day collection! The Lucky Day collection is a cart of popular books that people can just happen upon and “get lucky!” I thought that we could bring a whole new demographic to the cart by adding copies of the New 52 titles, and the higher-ups agreed!
And, I’d definitely have to eat that T Rex cookie!
I’ve also got an anti-happy this week: the news that Marvel has found a way to ret-con Wolverine into being an X-Man before anyone else. Seriously? I know Wolverine is super-awesome and rad and whatnot and the kids all love him, but isn’t there a little space in the X-Universe for not-Wolverine? For crying out loud, I’ve got an X-Men book I’m working on a review for that, miracle or miracles, doesn’t have Wolverine in it, but can you guess who’s front and center on the cover? He’s the best at what he does, and what he does is achieve media saturation.
Ooh, you lucky people who got to go to TCAF!
I was just thinking I’d happily take a whole tray of those T Rex cookies. He’s just so cute! And now, one assumes, tastey!
My happies this week are mostly related to my recent comics reading. I finally read Faith Erin Hicks’s Friends with Boys as well as I. Merey’s A+E Forever, both of which I very much liked. Two totally different takes on the tumultuous life stage that is high school. I also re-read all 27 volumes of Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemistin three days (with breaks for sleep, meals, and catching up on older episodes of Psych on Netflix with my elder sibling) in preparation for reviewing it here. Oh, how I love FMA. Now I want to go watch all of Brotherhood again (but it’ll have to wait till I get my “work” done!). And I re-read Marjane Satrapi’s The Complete Persepolis and watched the film adaptation so I’ll be all set for my book discussion tonight (Thursday). And, I finally saw The Avengers on Monday. Captain America: “Hulk…smash!” Wee! It’s been a busy two weeks!
This is my happy this week. The woman in blue, cosplaying as Suigintou from Rozen Maiden (her friends are the other dolls), is a friend I’ve made online, though we’ve sadly never gotten a chance to meet in person. But I am touched that she shared her beautiful work with me!
